Where do HR professionals go for support? "Supervision" provides practitioners with regular and ongoing opportunities to reflect in depth about all aspects of their practice to work as effectively, safely and ethically as possible. Supervision also sustains the personal resourcefulness required to undertake the work.

Psychologists, coaches, counsellors are all required to receive supervision as part of their ethical duty to the profession. However, this has never been thought about for HR.

HR in practice is both a science and an art. Effective HR work often depends on the practitioners' ability to think critically; understand the context and the legislation, connect the dots; be discerning; stay objective; make tricky judgement calls and advise the business on all people matters. It is, however, inherently a private endeavour most of the work done by HR professionals is confidential. This means there are very few people to discuss challenges with; share thoughts/feelings; check best practices, get support and take care of one's own mental health. Many HR professionals feel inundated by and ill-equipped to deal with the current mental health challenges facing many employees.

Supervision sessions provide a safe space for HR professionals and form an important part of ensuring the wellbeing of HR employees. This offering can take the form of group supervision for HR teams within organisations or on an individual basis.
